The Dog Owner: Suzanne Stavert is a Lifestyle & Travel Blogger – Since creating AdventuresofEmptyNesters.com four years ago she engages her multi-generational audience through her writing and photography where she shares details of world-wide travel, fabulous restaurants and empty nester experiences. The success of the blog has led to exciting adventures like filming an infomercial, guest blogging for the Container Store, hosting videos and partnering with major travel brands. She lives this sweet life with Craig, her husband of thirty-three years and their rescue pup & substitute child Rocco, in sunny Southern California.
Dog type and Name: We rescued him as a pup so we think Rocco is a German Shepherd and Cattle Dog
Q: Why did you choose this dog?
When we visited the German Shepherd Rescue, there were eleven puppies in the littler. Our little pup crawled right next to us and stayed there. We knew he was the one.
Q: Do you talk to your dog? If so, what do you talk about?
Yes, we talk a lot. I ask him about what is happening in the yard and I always ask him “Wanna come with me?”
Q: If he could talk to you, what would he say?
Why do you walk around so much? The minute I get comfortable you go upstairs, or move about the house every few minutes! How can I guard you from the bad things in this world if you keep moving?
Q: If your dog had a job or career, what would he be doing?
This one is easy! He would be a personal trainer. He is always ready for a walk and drops his toys in my lap several times a day. He is ready to work out and wants to push me to join him.
Q: What lesson in life has your dog taught you?
Be kind and compassionate. When my father was sick and I was upset, Rocco would come and lay his head on my feet. I will never forget his kindness and compassion.
Q: How does your dog inspire you? Yes he does! Life can be so serious at times and Rocco is happy all the time! I need to slow down and be more in the moment.
Q: Where is your dog’s favorite place to go with you? His favorite place to go is anywhere we go! He loves to take walks and always ready to hop in the car for every adventure.
Q: Who or what does your dog find the most interesting?
Well… he stares out into the backyard to look for squirrels and birds. He feels it is his duty to protect me from them.
Q: What is the most annoying thing other dog owners do? When other dog owners do not have their dogs on a leash! They seem to think that rules do not apply. It is so unfair to dogs on leashes when another dog is loose. It can be disastrous.
Q: What does being a responsible dog owner mean to you? We need to make sure that he is well taken care of and groomed properly. We need to keep him safe and it is so easy to love and adore him.
Q: Do you ever dress up your dog? If so, as what?
No, we do not. The closest thing to dressing him up is to put a blue collar on him for the LA Dodgers during baseball season.
Q: How has your dog changed your life? As empty nesters, we miss the everyday interaction with our children in the house. I always joke that Rocco is our substitute child, but he really is! He has filled a void the kids have left since growing up and moving out.
Q: Does your dog have a philosophy of life? Hmmm… probably this: “Don’t worry be happy. Life is short and we need to take a walk and enjoy life!”
Q: I love my dog because he makes me feel that I am the most important person in the world!
Q: Have you ever made dog treats for your dog? If so, please share your recipe.
No I have not. He has a sensitive stomach and when things are going well I don’t fool with his diet.
WAGGLEVIEW®: These interviews are focused on leaders in business, the community, or at home. My hope in doing this is to present remarkable and respected people in their community with their beloved pets. Who can resist reading about pets and what these people do? This is a platform for people to display their talents; their own business, a new book, a deeply loved passion for a charity or their own job. It also shows their love for their pet!
Thank you Suzanne for taking the time to participate in the Waggleview®.
